I take it the pier company and not the council are responsible for the illuminations?
Ginger mustn't let it rest there - ask him to post full details of his experiences in such Arabian enterprises.
I remarked on Sunday evening to my wife as we drove down from the Craigside direction, how striking the illuminations on the pier and especially the end buildings, were in the darkness.
