West Shore Sunset

I was up on Anglesey Road on Sunday evening in the hope of taking some decent Sunset photos across West Shore and Conwy Bay. I didn't get anything really exciting but this one is not too bad, I think.

Tower Of Mystery

Tower Of Mystery, originally uploaded by davidrobertsphotography.

This odd looking structure is on the beach at West Shore, Llandudno. I believe one of the local residents built it in the 1970s as a look out point for their house (which was on top of the cliff) but dont have any details. It's now abandoned and semi-derelict. Couldnt find a way up to the top of the tower, although we did look!

For Art's sake!

The revelation in the North Wales Weekly News that pressure group Save Our Promenade had discovered the cost of the sculpture shown in the photo above to be THIRTY SIX THOUSAND POUNDS must have come as a surprise to many. I looked at it myself this morning whilst passing and could probably have knocked up something similar from B&Q for about a tenner. It's by the Beach Cafe on West Shore, Llandudno, if you want to go and admire it.

I can only echo the words of Save Our Promenade spokesman, Mike Pritchard, when he says that "It's a massive amount to have spent on a sculpture...because it's used as a dog toilet and a receptacle for all sorts of rubbish". In fact, I'd probably go a little further than Mike, and describe it as a 'load of utter crap'.

I'm currently investigating the possibility of opening my own Public Art Design Practice - I'll only be supplying Councils, of course, and I'm thinking about specifying a minimum spend of around £30,000 per artwork. Good idea?

Sandstorm!

Those of us taking a stroll along the West Shore, Llandudno, this morning to get some fresh air got a little more than they bargained for....sand....and lots of it!

The strong Westerly winds were whipping up the sand from the beach and depositing it neatly into the pond around the Alice Statue and the Yachting Pond. Looking at it, it seems as though it is the breakwater opposite the site of the Penmorfa Hotel that is to blame - it encourages the dry sand to build up behind it, ready to be blown over the sea wall whenever the wind picks up.
