Sandstorm!

Those of us taking a stroll along the West Shore, Llandudno, this morning to get some fresh air got a little more than they bargained for....sand....and lots of it!

The strong Westerly winds were whipping up the sand from the beach and depositing it neatly into the pond around the Alice Statue and the Yachting Pond. Looking at it, it seems as though it is the breakwater opposite the site of the Penmorfa Hotel that is to blame - it encourages the dry sand to build up behind it, ready to be blown over the sea wall whenever the wind picks up.

“Those of us taking a stroll along the West Shore, Llandudno, this morning” (pissed and on our way home from an all night drinking session more like.) “got a little more than they bargained for....sand....and lots of it!” (it’s a beach, you know, the bit between the wet stuff and dry land usually incorporates fine gravel, better known as sand!!!!!)
“Looking at it, it seems as though it is the breakwater opposite the site of the Penmorfa Hotel that is to blame - it encourages the dry sand to build up behind it, ready to be blown over the sea wall whenever the wind picks up.” (encourage?, hello little sand, do you want a sweetie, come over here and hide behind me, there’s a good little sand. That sort of encourage?. What shall we do Chameleon; take the breakwater to one side and give it a damm good thrashing?, don’t you just hate these breakwaters that lead innocent sand astray?, jail is too good for them.)

It's a fabulous place for a picnic on day's like that. I love to chomp on my favorite pie from Poyntons, then for dessert (in the desert), plenty of fresh fruit to refresh the palate afterwards from the grocers in Bodhyfryd Ave. If too much sand sticks to my peaches I always wash everything down with a bottle of D&B and Blood Tonic cordial from the Sweet Shop near the grocers.

When the picnic is over, it's nice to take photo's of seagulls on rooftops, or maybe a large sandcastle on the beach - you never know, they may end-up in the local paper one day.

When the day is over, it's time for the long trek back to Blackpool again, to suck on my little stick of Blackpool rock. Oh, how I wish the sand would stick to it, but we just don't get sandy conditions like the West Shore does.

Apart from being a walking bleedin’ advert for all the shops in Llandudno do you realise it is an offence to nick our sand and cart it back to Blackpool?

I didn't nick any sand. All that fresh fruit refreshed my bowels as well as my palate and I 'evacuated' into the boating lake. Couldn't scoop it up, as it floated away past two signets, and was cut in two by a remote-controlled aircraft carrier. The Dog Warden then gave me an on-the-spot fine for 'fouling' - not for messing-up the lake - for fouling the carrier's propeller's.
