The other weekend, I went for a wander around the better bits of Colwyn Bay and ended up walking through the Pwllycrochan Woods. I hadn't been up there for a few years and was pleasantly surprised to see that the council had actually made an effort to tidy things up. The network of paths is being maintained, there are benchs and signposts, and the woodland itself is being managed to encourage a diversity of wildlife. It's only a few minutes walk from the centre of Colwyn Bay, yet is very tranquil.

Whilst passing the Half Moon Pond, I noticed that the council seem to have been rather too enthusiastic about dredging the several decades worth of silt and leaves that previously filled it and its now over 10 foot deep in places!
The pond has been full of rubbish and half empty of water for as long as I've been around. I've been told the plan is to seal the leak and then let it fill up naturally.
The Woods are well worth a visit:
